To update the chain of custody for one or more items, you need to record the transfer of the items. The steps below show how to complete the process without bar codes. To use a bar code, simply click the mouse in the appropriate yellow box and scan the bar code.
From the Evidence Management menu, select Evidence Transfer.
To fill in a From, To or Then To box without scanning a bar code, click the Select Location (bar code) button.
Click the tab for the type of entity you want to add; either a lab staff member, an agency rep or a storage location.
Click the name of the entity to select.
When you are entering the transfer information, you can add more than one Then To record in the same transfer. Each time you add a Then To value, a new, blank line will be added. The date will become available once the location has been selected. You do not have to use the last line that was added.
To add items to the transfer without scanning a bar code, click the Select Evidence (bar code) button under Items to be Transferred.
You can select items from a storage location by clicking the location or you can search for a case by case number.
Check the check box next to items to include in the transfer.
Click OK.
Once the transfer information has been set and items have been selected, click the Save button to process the transfer.
A confirmation box will be presented when the transfer has been completed.
